Annabelle: Creation Movie Story
Samuel Mullins, a dollmaker, and his wife, Esther, are devastated by the tragic loss of their seven-year-old daughter, Annabelle, affectionately known as “Bee,” who dies in an accident after stepping in front of a car.
Twelve years later, the Mullins decide to open their home to Sister Charlotte and six orphaned girls left homeless by the closure of their orphanage. Despite being warned to stay away from Bee’s locked bedroom, Janice, a young girl who has been disabled by polio, discovers that the door has mysteriously become unlocked. Inside, she finds a note that reads “Find me” and uncovers a chilling porcelain doll hidden in Bee’s closet. This discovery inadvertently unleashes a powerful demon that begins to terrorize the group. One night, the demon, taking on the form of Bee, appears to Janice, claiming it wants her soul. In a terrifying encounter, Janice tries to escape using a stairlift, but the demon manipulates it, sending her crashing violently to the ground floor, resulting in severe injuries that leave her confined to a wheelchair. Now, with Janice unable to move freely, her best friend Linda is forced to sleep alone and faces the torment of the malevolent demon that stalks them.
Annabelle: Creation Movie Review
What makes Annabelle: Creation stand out is Sandberg’s skillful direction, using tension-building techniques and creative scares rather than relying on cheap jump scares. The movie is filled with unsettling imagery, eerie sound design, and well-timed moments of dread, keeping viewers in a constant state of unease. The film’s slow-burn pacing allows the tension to gradually rise, leading to a climactic and terrifying final act. The performances are solid across the board, especially from the young cast. Lulu Wilson, who plays Linda, delivers an impressive performance, and her vulnerability makes the threat of the demonic presence even more palpable. Talitha Bateman, as Janice, also excels as her character becomes increasingly involved with Annabelle’s sinister force. The chemistry among the orphans adds an emotional core to the film, making the stakes feel higher as they are targeted by the supernatural entity.
While Annabelle: Creation does an excellent job in delivering scares, it doesn’t entirely escape some horror clichés. There are moments where the narrative feels predictable, especially for seasoned horror fans familiar with the haunted-doll trope. However, the film’s execution and attention to detail help elevate it above standard horror fare. is a highly effective horror film that delivers scares while adding depth to the Annabelle lore. Sandberg’s direction, combined with strong performances and a terrifying atmosphere, makes this prequel a standout entry in The Conjuring universe. Even if it follows some familiar horror beats, its execution is polished, making it a must-watch for fans of supernatural horror.
