Anvita Dutt, a commissioned film writer, wrote the movie’s story. She wrote the first two pages of the story after waking up one night and describing the chudail, the myth, and the concept behind her in this first draft. After returning from a trip from Kolkata, she completed the remainder of the story after observing a bulbul build a nest outside her house and receiving encouragement from her coworkers. She set the story in Bengal during the neoclassical era so that it would have the feel of a fairy tale. She was also influenced by the way Rabindranath Tagore wrote about women; One of the characters in his work is called Binodini. The premise is similar to that of Tagore’s novella Nastanirh, which Satyajit Ray adapted into the 1964 movie Charulata. Dutt says, “Now in reality, what happens to women is much worse.” The psychological, emotional, and physical abuse is significantly worse. I decided to tell the story in this manner. It’s a tragedy. I wanted women’s cold rage to find a way out. Despite being set 200 years ago, the story is still relevant today. The film was shot over a thirty-three-day period in locations near Kolkata and Mumbai. Siddharth Diwan was in charge of the cinematography. [citation needed] Along with influences from Expressionism and Surrealism, Raja Ravi Varma’s and Caravaggio’s artwork served as inspiration for Dutt. Diwan also looked to photographers like Man Ray and Raja Deen Dayal for inspiration. The lighting was inspired by the Devi poster by Satyajit Ray.

The grass, kaash phool, bird, and flower motifs are all significant to the goddess Durga. The mansion used in the film is Bawali Rajbari, which is in the village of Nodakhali, 30 kilometers (19 miles) from Kolkata. The mansion was previously featured in the Rituparno Ghosh film Chokher Bali. Set in Bengal in the late 19th century, the film explores the idea that aristocratic Bengali women embrace freedom ideologies. Shreya Paul of Firstpost noted that Tagore’s relationship with his child-bride sister-in-law, Kadambari, was described in Aruna Chakravarti’s Jorasanko as the foundation for Bulbbul and Satya’s relationship.

Bulbbul Movie Story

In the 19th century, Bulbbul marries a wealthy lord named Indranil in a village in Bengal Presidency when she is just five years old. She is close to the younger brother of Indranil, Satya, who is closer to her age. As they grow up together, Bulbbul and Satya tell each other stories about a witch (called a “chudail”).

Satya visits London again twenty years later. In the interim, Mahendra, Indranil’s mentally ill twin brother, was killed in what was thought to be an attack by a chudail. Binodini, his widow, now resides in an outhouse. Bulbbul has assumed Indranil’s duties since he left the village. Due to an incident she refuses to discuss, Bulbbul’s feet are routinely examined by Sudip, the village doctor. Satya thinks Sudip when another man is killed. In the meantime, a boy from the village tells Bulbbul that his mother killed herself because her husband chose his second wife over her; The man is pursued by Bulbbul.

It is revealed in flashbacks that Binodini had been envious of Indranil and Bulbbul and had suggested to him that Bulbbul had feelings for Satya. Indranil poisoned Satya’s mind and sent him to London to separate the two of them. Satya and Bulbbul had been writing a story together; She burned the manuscript in the fireplace, heartbroken. Indranil, influenced by Binodini, retrieved the charred pages; He was convinced of Bulbbul’s feelings for Satya after reading them. He beat her and used iron bars to sever her feet out of rage. Mahendra raped her while she was in bed and accidentally suffocated her while he was sadistic.

Bulbbul Movie Review

After TUMMBAD, this is one of the best horror thrillers ever made in Bollywood. It is a horror thriller, but it hasn’t been diluted by silly jump scares or indigestible VFX, so you can still call it that. The movie is as real and honest as it can get. The music and visuals transport the audience to an entirely new fairytale world. I can’t remember the last time I watched a movie without fast-forwarding from the opening credits on.

The film is crisp and perfect from the opening credits to the final scenes. Editing is like writing poetry. It’s the best Hindi movie I’ve ever seen. Simply outstanding. Another aspect of the film that is eerie is the music. After watching the movie, the violin melodies stayed in my head for a number of hours. The music blends so well that it feels like blood is coursing through my veins.

The other pillars of the movie are the Art Director, the VFX team, and the camera team. The movie is a visual treat with mind-blowing sequences. I thought of each frame as a Raja Ravivarma painting. The artwork, colors, and sets are as perfect as they can get. The film was given a fairytale frame by the visceral red.
