The film opened to positive reviews. The Times of India rated it two and a half stars, noting that while director A. Karunakaran elicits strong performances from the cast, the plot lacks freshness. They suggested the director still seems influenced by his earlier work Tholi Prema, delivering another one-sided love story without a convincing reason for the protagonist to suppress his feelings until the end. However, the review praised the film for its fun moments and some emotionally resonant scenes. Sify highlighted Prabhas’s performance, describing him as very handsome and a major highlight of the film. Rediff found the film entertaining and commended the director for providing wholesome family entertainment. Local review sites GreatAndhra and Idlebrain both awarded the film three stars, praising the performances of the actors and the film’s technical aspects.

Darling Movie Story
The movie begins in 1980, where a group of friends celebrates their farewell party, promising to stay in touch. Among them are Hanumanta Rao, whose son is Prabha, and Vishwanath, who has a daughter named Nandini. To pursue their professional dreams, Vishwanath and Nandini move to Switzerland, while Hanumanta Rao becomes a criminal lawyer in India. As a result, Prabha and Nandini are separated during their childhood.
Years later, the friends reunite, and an adult Prabha, now a musician, is excited to see his long-lost love, Nandini. However, Nisha, the daughter of a local don, attempts suicide when Prabha rejects her affections. In retaliation, her father threatens Prabha and his friends, but Prabha cleverly escapes by fabricating a story about how he traveled to Switzerland and fell in love with Nandini. During the reunion at Bhadram’s farmhouse, Prabha spots Nandini, who has become a gold medalist from Cambridge. Eager to impress her, he tries various antics, but his efforts are continually thwarted by her brother. One day, he learns about Nandini’s love for basketball and seizes the opportunity to build a basketball court. As they play, Rishi, the son of Appala Raju, crashes the game, garnering cheers from Nandini. This sparks a rivalry between Rishi and Prabha as both compete to win Nandini’s heart, leading to a lighthearted cold war between the two.
