It’s What’s Inside Movie Story
Shelby and Cyrus, along with their friends Reuben, Dennis, Nikki, Brooke, and Maya, gather at Reuben’s family home for a celebratory party before his wedding. They’re joined by their old college friend Forbes, whom they haven’t seen since he was expelled for bringing his high school-aged sister, Beatrice, to a campus party. Beatrice, who had developed an intense obsession with Dennis (Nikki’s boyfriend at the time), was later admitted to a mental facility.
Forbes arrives with a mysterious suitcase containing a device that allows people to swap bodies with one another. He explains that he and his colleagues would use it to play a game where each person has to guess who’s in their body. After a brief demonstration, the group takes Polaroid photos for identification and agrees to try out the game.
In the first round, they mistakenly assume Cyrus is in Dennis’s body. Surprisingly, Forbes—actually the one in Dennis’s body—goes along with the lie, pretending to be Cyrus. Cyrus, who is in Reuben’s body, decides to play along as well and finds himself drawn to Maya (who is in Nikki’s body), leading to a kiss between them.
Disturbed by Forbes’s deception, Cyrus initially refuses to participate in a second round. However, he relents when Shelby, who is usually reserved, eagerly agrees to continue. Forbes announces that this will be the last round before the device requires 24 hours to recharge. In this round, Shelby swaps into Nikki’s body and becomes captivated by Nikki’s glamorous appearance and social media influence. Meanwhile, Cyrus, now in Forbes’s body, grows anxious and demands to end the game.
As the group gathers to switch back, tragedy strikes when the rooftop balcony collapses. Reuben, who is in Dennis’s body, and Brooke, who is in Maya’s body, had been up there together, and both fall to their deaths.
It’s What’s Inside Movie Review
It’s What’s Inside exceeded my expectations when I watched it. I’d heard about the movie beforehand but had no idea what to expect, so I went in completely blind.
I ended up thoroughly enjoying it, and it’s now my favorite film of the past three years. The eerie tension and atmosphere were captivating, and the acting was exceptional. The depth of the characters and storyline kept me constantly questioning what I would do in their situation, making it all the more engaging.
I’d highly recommend this film to anyone looking for something that demands their full attention and has a strong element of mystery.
My only critique is that it can be confusing at times—it was challenging to keep track of the character names and remember who had swapped bodies with whom. But honestly, I think this was intentional, as the filmmakers seem to encourage viewers to watch a second time. A rewatch allows you to better understand the characters’ motives and piece together the twists, especially how the ending impacts the story as a whole.
