The first series aired on TV Tokyo, running for 220 episodes from October 2002 to February 2007. An English dub by Viz Media aired on Cartoon Network and YTV from September 2005 to December 2009. The sequel, Shippuden, also aired on TV Tokyo, with 500 episodes broadcast from February 2007 to March 2017. Its English dub was initially shown on Disney XD in the U.S. from October 2009 to November 2011, covering the first 98 episodes, before transitioning to Adult Swim’s Toonami block in January 2014, where it started from the beginning. After Disney XD ceased airing the series, Viz Media began streaming new English dubbed episodes on their service Neon Alley in December 2012, starting from episode 99, but the service was discontinued in March 2016 after airing 338 episodes.
