The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Movie Story
In 1981, demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren are present for the exorcism of 8-year-old David Glatzel in Brookfield, Connecticut. The event is attended by David’s family, including his older sister Debbie, her boyfriend Arne Johnson, and Father Gordon. In a desperate attempt to save David, Arne invites the demon to enter his body instead. Ed witnesses this transfer as the demon causes Arne to suffer a heart attack.
A month later, Ed wakes up in the hospital and recounts his vision of the demon entering Arne. Meanwhile, Arne begins to experience hallucinations of a demonic presence, leading him to stab his landlord 22 times in a fit of rage. With the Warrens’ support, Arne’s case becomes the first American murder trial to use demonic possession as a legal defense. The Warrens discover a witch’s totem in the Glatzel home, which carries a satanic curse. They learn from Kastner, a former priest who studied the Disciples of the Ram cult, that an occultist intentionally left the totem, resulting in a curse on the Glatzels and David’s possession. When the Warrens are informed that detectives in Danvers, Massachusetts, found a similar totem linked to the murder of Katie Lincoln—who was also stabbed 22 times—they travel to investigate. The totem was discovered at the home of Katie’s friend Jessica, who is currently missing. Through a vision, Lorraine learns that Jessica killed Katie while possessed before jumping to her death. This revelation helps detectives recover Jessica’s body. Lorraine also witnesses the occultist attempting to force Arne to take his own life but intervenes just in time, alerting the occultist to the Warrens’ presence.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It Movie Review
One minor drawback of The Conjuring 3 is that it occasionally shifts its focus away from pure horror in favor of unraveling the mystery, which may not appeal to all viewers. The pacing can feel uneven, particularly in the second act, where the scares take a backseat to the procedural elements of the plot.
However, the film still succeeds in delivering tension and spookiness, making it a strong addition to the franchise. The Warrens’ personal stakes, solid performances, and moments of genuine terror earn it a solid 4 out of 5 stars. While it may not be as groundbreaking as the first two films, it remains a worthwhile chapter that keeps the series alive and haunting.
