Uri: The Surgical Strike is a 2019 Indian Hindi-language military action film written and directed by debutant Aditya Dhar and produced by Ronnie Screwvala under the banner of RSVP Movies. A fictionalized dramatization of the true events of the 2016 Uri attacks, the film stars Vicky Kaushal as well as Yami Gautam, Paresh Rawal, Kirti Kulhari and Mohit Raina in key roles and tells the story of Major Bihaan Shergill (Vicky Kaushal), a paramilitary (special forces), who played a leading role in the incident.

Screwvala announced the film in September 2017, a year after the 2016 Line of Control attacks in India. Principal photography began in June 2018 in Serbia, with the bulk of the filming taking place in Mumbai before wrapping up in September. The film was released in theaters on January 11, 2019, and was met with positive reviews from critics and audiences alike, who praised the acting of the cast, screenplay, action sequences, sound design, direction, and technical aspects, and won various awards, including four National Film Awards.

The first chapter begins with the ambush of an Indian Army convoy by NSCN(K) militants in Chandel, Manipur in June 2015. In retaliation, a force including Para SF officer Major Bihaan Singh Shergill and his brother-in-law, a law-abiding force, infiltrates Major Karan Kashyap and the Northeast militants and attacks them. In the process, they also kill the leader responsible for the ambush. After the successful attack, the Prime Minister of India congratulates him and the entire force at an official dinner. Vihaan asks for early retirement as he wants to be closer to his mother who suffers from stage VI Alzheimer’s disease. Instead, the Prime Minister offers him a clerical position in New Delhi near his mother, which he agrees to.
The second chapter sees Vihaan taking up a clerical job at the Joint Defence Staff Headquarters in New Delhi and spending time with his family. The attack on Pathankot is also briefly discussed in this section. A nurse named Jasmine D’Almeida is tasked with looking after Vihaan’s mother. Vihaan meets Captain Seerat Kaur, an Indian Air Force pilot who wants to prove his patriotism to her martyred husband, an Army officer who died in an ambush. One day, Vihaan’s mother goes missing. He searches for her and blames Jasmine for her ignorance, saying that she doesn’t need his safety. Vihaan’s mother is found under a bridge and it is revealed that Jasmine is a secret agent. The film reveals why the families of Special Forces soldiers were given protection in the face of terrorist threats from the North-East.

This is an outstanding and complete Josh movie. I want every Indian to watch this movie and feel proud to be an Indian. As we all know, this movie is based on the 2016 surgical strike and shows how many people were involved in this mission and what progress they made. All the action was amazing. The sound effects were amazing (really appreciated).

Vicky, you are amazing. I’m sure you will replace the 3 Khans in the Bollywood industry in the future. You are already one of my favorites and many others’ favorites. Keep up the great acting. Mohit was pretty good too. Finally, I want everyone in India to watch and support movies like this. I don’t even know how the defense personnel protect us and give us a good night’s sleep every night. I am also the daughter of a defense personnel. I rate this movie 5/5. Full 5 stars from my side.
